Local Suppliers

Below are some local contacts which members may find useful:

1. Club Merchandise

Based on the new club logo we now have a selection of club polo shirts and tennis hoodies at a pretty good price and in a choice of sizes and colours. Amongst his many other jobs Simon has volunteered to run our shop.

Click on the attached word document to place an order.

2. Sports Injuries

For help with tennis elbow, pulled muscles together with general aches and pains such as sore backs or necks, one of our long standing members, Sue Pitts, is also a fully qualified Sports Therapist. Sue specialises in sports massage and can be contacted on 01635 20199.

Her general tip is that before playing, first do some very light exercise designed to get the circulation going (e.g. walk, cycle or jog to the courts) and then move into a few standard stretching exercises. Stretching is important but doing this from a completely cold start can also result in injury.

3. Racquet Restringing

Restringing makes a big difference to racquet performance and the rule of thumb is to restring as many times a year as you play per week.

Trevor Howard who lives up near the Black & White garage runs a restringing business and is used by a number of members. His website provides details of his services and can be reached at www.blackknot.co.uk .

4. Tennis Equipment

Whilst there is a miriad of suppliers, particularly via the internet, it can be difficult to get any decent advise. Wilds Sports in Newbury (14 Bartholomew Street Tel 01635 237200) have supported a number of our events by providing a racquet demo and can provide a level of advise on both racquets and shoes.

As a member of Cold Ash Tennis Club you can sign up for their Gold Card loyalty scheme. This is a simple loyalty card (not a store credit card) and entitles you to a credit voucher worth 10% of what you spend. To find out more simply ask at the shop for details. It is free and very straightforward.
